When the pandemic locked people inside, Buffalo Games saw an unprecedented spike in demand for its puzzles. But just as demand was taking off, the company's Buffalo, NY factory was shut down under New York State COVID-19 mandate. As the largest manufacturer of puzzles in North America, the company had to get creative. First, Buffalo Games sourced from overseas and then ramped up manufacturing stateside when the factory was able to reopen in May. Since May, the company has doubled production, now making 2 million puzzles a month. Business Insider visits the factory to see how Buffalo Games did it.

How America's Largest Puzzle Factory Makes 2 Million Puzzles A Month

  • I started doing jigsaws when I moved for my first job and was bored and alone- and worked in a toy store- at 19. I just want something satisfying and time consuming so i really like 750 piece Americana puzzles like the first one they featured.

  • Made in America: printed sheets from Canada, computers and proof printers from China and Malaysia, the board and box stock and glue from China and machines from Germany. Factory Lit with LEDs from China, shrink film from China, workers from whoknowswhere, workers wearing masks and clothes from every butt hole country on the planet. All Owned by an Indian. Yep! That’s today’s capitalism! “Made in USA!”

    HenryHenry2 bulan yang lalu
  • "...there will be a robust demand for a long time to come..." As soon as the pandemic is over most of these "new customers" are going back to their normal lives and will drop die-cut gramma puzzles like a hot rock. Don't squander this opportunity. Invest and innovate with highly desirable products to retain and wow these people by stimulating their minds in new ways. You can start by updating your bland package design. Otherwise you face the same fate as your namesake.

  • They make so many per day because Buffalo puzzle pieces suck! The images peel off the edges of the pieces, a ton of the pieces are still stuck together when you get it, they're thin....just awful. Go with a Ravensburger or Educa if you actually want a decent puzzle.

Even the Audubon Society bird puzzles. Maybe the made in Buffalo puzzles don't get shipped all over the USA. Get ready for a massive over stock BG.

  • Thanks for this video, it was very interesting. I'm not a fan of Buffalo's aesthetic... I would much prefer a more "designed" look rather than the "kitchen sink" approach of rainbows and Photoshop comps, but it's good to see that they are doing well.

Janet FrisbyJanet Frisby19 hari yang lalu
    • If you like them so much, you can frame and hang them on the wall. I have many framed puzzles, which I plan to sell for making money before leaving Turkey for Work & Travel and coming to US. So, only one of them is hanging in our house, the rest is stored with bubble wrap. I don't want to put pieces in the box back again and I don't have much space left for frames. I will try to stick them from the back using tape for being able to keep doing puzzles.
