How The $30 Million 'Super Scooper' Plane Was Built To Fight Wildfires

This $30 million Super Scooper is the only plane in the world that was designed specifically to fight wildfires. The aircraft performs a dangerous dive down to a body of water, scoops up 1,400 gallons of water in 12 seconds, and drops its load of water on raging forest fires. We went inside this massive aircraft to find out how it works, what it takes to fly it, and why it’s considered the most efficient aerial-firefighting aircraft in the world.

  • So , its only really going to be of any use, providing you have a lake or river reasonably close to the forest fire! For fires that are raging in forests that are say, an hour or two flying distance away, you would need a few of them to make a real difference in stopping the fire!

  • 30 millions is not a joke but if you compare it to a boeing 737 fire fighting plane which comes at a price min 60 millions 30 millions are pretty good beside of that the propellor engines are better than jet engines...and the big plus is you can quickly re-fill the water tank at nearlly any lake or at sea while others need to return to an airfield..

  • Why aren’t you mentioning that the 415 is only using water in these situations and not the retardant that land based aircraft carry which is several times more effective than plain water? Great advertisement tho, just not very accurate....they also use FLIR which is a big advantage....and a SEAT can carry almost as much as a 215 and two Seats can do more effective drops than a 215...

  • 7:31 "The next goal for aerial firefighting is to gather as much data as possible and let everyone know what's going on." I think the best policy is to just lie and deny about fire dangers. Tell everyone affected by wildfire, "Ahh, you're going to be OK, quit whining. Be sure to keep your schools and shops open, that's the main thing. Don't worry about the smoke." If someone does get burned out of their home or ranch, be sure to blame a Democrat. This always works, trust me.

This Canadair CL415 is a design based a super critical wing which allows it to have a very low stall speed. Paired with the excellent turbo-props, this becomes a masterpiece for the heroes that firefighters are and allow them to become to be the real life savers of our world. This plane is manufactured in a Bombardier factory located in Montreal. It has its own runway from which it can test its planes.
