Aisles labeled as ethnic, Asian, Mexican, or international are frequently found in supermarket chains across the US. With America becoming more and more accepting of their individual flavors and differences, what is keeping the ethnic aisle in existence?

Is The Ethnic Food Aisle Racist? | Open Bias

  • Right, buying polish food in Germany always feels a bit odd since you won’t find polish mustard at mustard, polish vodka together with whisky and rum, etc. You’ll find a little aisle for Slavic and Romanian products, where literally any kind of stuff is grouped together

  • Americans are crazy. I live in multiracial country and we practise what will be labelled as cultural appropriation in USA. We will wear each other's attires, eat each other's food and we make fun of each others as well and we are okay with it. Screw you, USA!

  • “Italian bread” isn’t Italian. It’s just named Italian bread because it’s a type of bread. There’s Italian bread in several other countries, I’ve seen it basically everywhere. And Siracha is made by an American food company, and produced mostly in America... Also, “ethnic food isles” exist everywhere...

    • Im from singapore to but i live in chicago and alot of the asian food here has alot of american inspired aspects to it. Majority of asian food in america are really sweet and salty. Chicago is also one of the biggest cities in the states so it probably really unlikely to find any real international food in smaller cities

  • I love the ethnic food isle, I've always thought of it as the cool place where the worldly people got their ingredients for their new fancy dish from across the world. It seems a disservice though, if more people knew that certain ethnic foods were condiments more people might buy them and try sticking them on American food. I've never tried it but chimichurri on a hotdog sounds good.

  • Some of the footage was black and white. I think that’s racist. Where’s the ethnic footage? Actually all colors are racist, because they focus on wavelength exclusion. You should change everything to my beliefs, or I will feel racisted against. Racisted is a word, by the way, and if you don’t think so... well, maybe they can make next “is x racist?” clip about you!

  • I'm Asian, and I think this is the most hilariously ridiculous, triggered, pointless and cry-wolf video I've seen in recent times. Hell, I'm proud to have an Asian food aisle. Plus, it makes things convenient for grocery shopping. Even in Asia, we have aisles for Japanese products, or Vietnamese, or Korean. Just makes things easier for the shopper. And what about when you know what you want is a Chinese product but don't exactly know what it's defined as by the supermarket? You'd be spending hours searching the aisles for what you want. Just makes shit easier ffs

  • If the only grocery store in town is the super Wal-Mart, any aisle you put the La Choy becomes the "Asian" aisle, and the Old El Paso meal kits is the "Hispanic" aisle. What else would you put on the sign above the aisle? So major grocery chain have to be similar across the US. On the other hand, live in a large metro area, and the independent international food stores have sections by COUNTRY. I live in an area where within a 5 mile radius, I can can shop in an Indian, Mexican, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and Eastern European supermarkets that are HUGE and where all the packaged foods are imported and not labeled in English. Am I supposed to call out those stores for not carrying Fruity Pebbles, Cheetos and Gatorade too?

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit... i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals. You all can reach out to him through morgantaylor587@gmail.com or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • I don’t find it racism although I do understand their point of view. I actually think if it in a different way. 1. It makes it easier for me to find what I need to find in the store and although with adjusting everything will probably take some time and with in time will probably become the new norm. I’m okay with how it is now. 2. I have my very own half isle of my food. I don’t have to go to all the other isles just bec i.e the noodles should be where the spaghetti isle. Everything is all together for me in one isle, plus their is always less food traffic in that isle. But I totally understand where their coming from and think it won’t happen so soon. The order of food changing in isles are the least thing that needs to be the focus in this country.

  • This is ridiculous. The food segregated by cuisine is not racism at all. Even pan-asian supermarkets owned by non-white have Indian, Japanese And Chinese aisles!! And that makes the shopping experience more practical! As a non white this video is the least smart thing I’ve seen lately...

  • It makes it a lot easier to find specific items. Anyway, noodle chips aren’t bread and in my supermarket they put the Italian food next to the Indian and Mexican foods. If you’re cooking a Lebanese meal for example, you’re gonna probably need both pomegranate syrup and tahini. It’s so much more convenient for the people that are actually cooking that food.

I live in Houston, arguable the most diverse city in the world and every store here has an INTERNATIONAL aisle right in the middle of the store not the back hidden like you referred. I see why everyone is giving yall crap about this video. This video should be remade and speak on how great is it that these grocery stores are able to provide food from around the wholes to make people feel more at home.
